Job Description
Officiates youth and adult sports games. Sports may include basketball, soccer, softball, kickball, volleyball, and/or flag football. Senior level Sports Officials maintain a broader, deeper understanding of the sport being officiated.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: Expertise in the specific sports program rules and interpretations; thorough knowledge of city and department policies.
SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY: Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current rules of specific sports; communicate effectively to the participants; to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; to work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
TRAINING: None required. Additional specialty/certifications preferred if available.
EXPERIENCE: 2 years' experience working within the sport in an increased level of competitiveness preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Responsible for enforcing rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; analyze situations and facts quickly and objectively to determine proper course of action to be taken.
- Monitors participants and their ability to participate; monitors attire to properly perform, (i.e., shoes, equipment, etc.) if applicable.
- Provides a safe environment for all participants; enforces all general building policies if applicable; completes any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Accident/Incident Reports, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.).
- Responsible for preparation of program activities; organizing related equipment; may be required to set up and break-down materials used for instruction.
- Attend scheduled meetings as required; makes supervisor aware of any customer, equipment, or facility needs.
- Ensures that the goals of objectives of the activity are met.
- Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions or resolve problems.
- Performs related duties as required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must hold current CPR/AED certification.
- Pass basic sports understanding test.
