IT Security Intern
Location: Remote in the United States
Target Dates: June - August 2025
29 hours per week
Compensation: $20/hr
Job Description: An IT Security Internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in protecting an organization's digital assets. Interns typically work under the guidance of senior security professionals to learn about and contribute to various aspects of cybersecurity.
Responsibilities: - Support Security Operations:
- Assist in monitoring security alerts and incidents using security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
- Help investigate and analyze security breaches and incidents.
- Vulnerability Assessment:
- Participate in vulnerability scans and assessments of networks, systems, and applications.
- Assist in identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities.
- Security Policy and Compliance:
- Support the development and enforcement of security policies and procedures.
- Help ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS.
- Threat Intelligence:
- Assist in gathering and analyzing threat intelligence to understand emerging threats and attack vectors.
- Help develop strategies to mitigate identified threats.
- Security Awareness Training:
- Contribute to the creation and delivery of security awareness programs for employees.
- Assist in educating staff about phishing, social engineering, and other common security threats.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of security incidents and responses.
- Help document security configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Research and Development:
- Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies.
- Assist in researching new security tools and technologies that can enhance the organization's security posture.
Qualifications: - Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of networking and operating systems.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts such as firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems.
- Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information.
Preferred Competencies: - Strong interest in cybersecurity and eagerness to learn.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Experience: - Previous internship or coursework in cybersecurity or related areas is beneficial but not required.
