Web Communications Coordinator (Public Affairs Specialist 2) Location Hybrid work in Portland, OR : Initial Posting Date: 05/29/2025 Application Deadline: 06/09/2025 Agency: Oregon Business Development Department Salary Range: $5,837 - $8,959 Position Type: Employee Position Title: Web Communications Coordinator (Public Affairs Specialist 2) : Business Oregon the state's economic development agency, is currently hiring a Web Communications Coordinator (Public Affairs Specialist 2). This key communications role oversees the department's website that is the main platform for sharing the services and outcomes Business Oregon delivers. The role includes content management, graphic design, and some limited programming. Use creativity to prioritize content that is in the highest demand and recommend improvements for User Experience. As a member of the Communications team, you will also have an opportunity to broaden your experience beyond the website and serve as an internal communications liaison providing general communications services to some agency teams, such as drafting short success stories, recommending community outreach, or crafting press releases. This hybrid role offers remote work options, with the expectation of a weekly 1-2 day in-office presence for those near an office, to support team building and overall operations. What you will do:
  • Maintain and create new content and structure as needed for the Agency's internet and intranet web sites.
  • Manage a Content Coordinator system of multiple content creators in the agency that use a Content Management System built in SharePoint under the state's Oregon.gov platform.
  • Construct web pages and supporting content in the SharePoint system, which can also involve using any combination of programming languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Use visual design skills to create accompanying content such as infographics and compelling imagery with Adobe Creative Suite. Also create supporting content such as forms, PDF files, and calendars.
  • Produce analytics on web site visitors and content to report to evaluate shifts in features or content, and to report to agency leadership.
  • Coordinate and assist department staff and authorize external partners/customers with resolution of web interface technical issues, graphic issues, linking issues, and database questions.
  • Monitor, analyze and address system performance problems. Work involves diagnosis of problems and development of solutions.
  • Provide communications and public relations consulting to internal clients, helping draft content, advise on public relations strategies, and promote agency work.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a combination of some or all the following skills:
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
    • Graphic design ability using the Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Business writing, synthesizing complex information, succinct plain language.
    • Can deliver a consistent voice across writing products, regardless of format or platform.
    • Comfort using technical, web-based tools, including CRM software, social media platforms, e-marketing platforms.
    • Attention to detail (producing public records, critical timelines, ensuring ADA accessibility) and ability to meet deadlines.

What you need to qualify: A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Behavioral or Social Sciences or related degree and two years professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs OR Five years' experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.
