Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in research, development, and transfer of drug delivery innovations within Lonza
  • Apply basic principles in heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemistry, and materials science
  • Use physical understanding and sound hypotheses to invent and conduct experiments and interpret data
  • Develop, code, and apply mechanistic and statistical models to steer process and formulation activities
  • Clearly communicate results verbally and in written format to a variety of internal and external audiences
  • Contribute to the establishment of intellectual property around innovations
  • Independently seek out and apply knowledge from literature or other external sources
  • Demonstrate leadership in scientific thought, operational execution, and supporting clients
  • Act as a proficient technical authority throughout the organization
  • Serve as a technical and professional guide for junior team members
  • Lead project prioritization, planning, and execution
  • Participate in translating business strategy into goal-oriented results

Pluses:

  • Essential grasp of phase behavior, encompassing miscibility, mutual solubility, and phase transitions, along with molecular mobility and diffusional mechanisms, as well as crystal nucleation and growth in solids and liquids.
  • Expertise in experimental materials science, physical chemistry, and solid-state physics of organic materials
  • Familiarity with solid-state characterization methods, including x-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (calorimetry), rheology, and understanding the science of surfaces and interfaces in both solids and liquids.

Key Requirements:

  • We are seeking a candidate with a BS or MS degree or equivalent experience in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related area
  • Proven experience in crafting and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and communicating results within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and drive innovation in technology development and improvements
  • Solid background in scientific and engineering principles, encompassing heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemistry, materials science, and mathematical modeling
  • Familiarity with crafting, programming, and implementing mechanistic and statistical models
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate scientific concepts and findings clearly
  • Proficiency in acting as a subject matter authority in technical aspects and offering mentorship to less seasoned peers
  • Dedication to encouraging an inclusive and collaborative work environment
