Job Description

At Neomorph, we’re pioneering the future of targeted protein degradation - and we're looking for a strategic, hands-on Senior / Executive Director, CMC to lead the development and execution of our CMC strategy from preclinical through early clinical stages. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundational CMC infrastructure of a rapidly growing biotech, influence molecule design and development decisions, and drive programs from concept to clinic. 

Position Summary

This is an onsite position based at our facility in San Diego, CA.

The Senior / Executive Director, CMC will be responsible for overseeing drug substance and drug product development, process optimization, manufacturing, QA, general supply chain, and regulatory CMC strategy to support Neomorph’s preclinical and clinical-stage programs. This role will lead the CMC strategy from preclinical through clinical development, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and business objectives.

This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership across drug substance and drug product development, formulation, analytical development, and GMP manufacturing, working closely with external CDMOs and internal stakeholders. The Senior / Executive Director will oversee all CMC-related IND-enabling activities, including authoring or reviewing CMC sections for regulatory submissions and ensuring robust CMC regulatory compliance. Additionally, they will be responsible for QA and implementing phase-appropriate manufacturing and supply chain strategies to enable seamless clinical trial execution.

The role requires a strong technical background in small molecule CMC development, including experience with process chemistry, solid-state chemistry, formulation, and analytical methods. The Senior / Executive Director will also lead CDMO selection and oversight, managing external partnerships to ensure the successful execution of CMC strategies. This individual will collaborate closely with research, discovery chemistry, clinical, regulatory, and quality teams to drive Neomorph’s CMC operations forward.

Required qualifications  

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with 15+ years of industry experience in CMC development, with a strong background in small molecule drug development.
  • Expertise in drug substance and drug product development, including process chemistry, formulation, analytical development, and GMP manufacturing.
  • Proven experience in CMC regulatory strategy and IND-enabling activities, including authoring CMC sections of regulatory filings.
  • Strong knowledge of phase-appropriate manufacturing strategies to support early clinical development.
  • Experience managing CDMOs and external manufacturing partners.
  • Understanding of CMC quality and regulatory requirements for early-stage oncology programs.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across clinical, regulatory, discovery, and quality teams.
  • Supply chain management experience.

Preferred qualifications  

  • Experience working in a small or start-up biotechnology environment.
  • Experience working with oncology trials.
  • Ex-US experience would be advantageous.

 

The anticipated base pay range at the Senior Director level is $250,000 - $284,000 and the Executive Director range is $279,000 - $310,000 per year. Several factors such as experience, tenure, skills, and particular business needs, will determine final compensation.
