Job Description

Experience conducting investigations of complaints as an impartial decisionmaker

The PRS Temporary Special Education Complaint Investigator (TI) will investigate complaints related to state and federal special education laws, including IDEA Part B (34 C.F.R. § 300.151-153), 603 C.M.R. 28.00, and related regulations. The TI will independently determine whether a school or district has violated applicable laws and regulations and draft clear, accurate written decisions with findings and corrective actions as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review relevant information and impartially analyze evidence to assess compliance with special education laws and regulations.

  • Prepare written determinations summarizing evidence, findings of fact, conclusions, and justification using PRS correspondence templates.

  • Issue findings of compliance or non-compliance and ensure all letters meet federal and state requirements.

  • Maintain accurate case logs and follow all confidentiality and recordkeeping standards.

  • Comply with procedures outlined in the PRS Special Education Procedures Guide and other PRS-provided guidelines.

  • Incorporate DESE feedback into final decisions.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of CORI check.

  • Signed confidentiality agreement.
