General Description


The City of Hamilton Police Department is currently recruiting for Police Officers. All testing with the National Testing Network (NTN) must be completed by the close date, Saturday, May 31, 2025. The exam provided by the National Testing Network will be used as the civil service exam. APPLICANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHEDULING AND TAKING THE NTN TEST PRIOR TO THE CLOSE DATE.


FOR THIS RECRUITMENT, APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
POSSESS THE OHIO PEACE OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMY (OPOTA) CERTIFICATION; OR
MUST HAVE BEEN EMPLOYED AS A CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER FOR LESS THAN TWO (2) YEARS AT AN OHIO POLICE AGENCY; OR
BE A CURRENT ACTIVE POLICE ACADEMY STUDENT

Valid OHIO Driver's License : Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License at time of appointment - Verified for finalists

Vision : Uncorrected total vision of 20/250 and corrected total vision of 20/20 (verified for finalist(s)

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers :

Any theft offense(s) as an adult, within the last five (5) years, which (a) singularly or cumulatively exceeds $1,000.00; or (b) establishes a pattern of theft offenses from an employer during the course of employment.
Any fraudulent insurance claims or fraudulent applications for welfare, workers compensation, unemployment compensation or other public assistance programs in excess of $1,000.00.
Any admission or conviction of an offense, as an adult, defined as a felony by the federal, state or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred. An admission of a felony offense would be disqualifying unless otherwise addressed by these standards.
Any admission or conviction of an offense, as a juvenile, of one (1) violent felony as defined by the federal, state or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred.
Any admission or conviction of a misdemeanor offense as defined by the federal, state or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred as an adult in the past five (5) years will be reviewed in determining suitability for appointment (unless otherwise addressed in these standards).

Driving Disqualifiers :

Any conviction of vehicular homicide.
OVI:
Conviction within the past five (5) years, or
More than one (1) OVI conviction as an adult, or
More than two (2) OVI convictions, if one of the convictions was as a juvenile.
Four (4) moving violations in the past three years as an adult.
At the time of application or anytime during the selection process, the applicant does not possess a valid driver's license and auto insurance as required by resident state if the applicant owns a motor vehicle.
If the applicant is deemed uninsurable by the City's insurance carrier during the selection process.

Drug Use Disqualifiers :

Any use or purchase of a substance that would constitute a drug abuse offense as defined by the Ohio Revised Code (except marijuana) within three (3) years before the application deadline.
Any use, purchase, or cultivation of marijuana within one (1) year before the application deadline or any time during the selection process.
Any illegal manufacture or sale of a substance that would constitute a drug abuse offense as defined by the Ohio Revised Code, including marijuana or prescriptive drugs unless the substance was sold without profit to the applicant, the amount sold was de minimus, and the sales occurred when the applicant was a juvenile or more than five (5) years ago.

Employment Disqualifiers :

Three (3) or more involuntary terminations and/or discharges from employment within the last five (5) years. This shall not include terminations resulting from a business ceasing operations, or resulting from being laid off from a position of employment.
Post-probationary termination from any public safety-related employment.
Discharge or resignation in lieu of discipline from any public safety-related employment.
